Privacy Policy

Government Context ("we", "us") provides analysis of the public federal policy record — rulemaking, legislation, and related disclosures. This policy describes what we collect from you and how we use it.

What we collect

Account data: your email address, name, organization name, and identifiers linking your account to our authentication provider, WorkOS. WorkOS processes your credentials; we do not store your password. Usage data: the documents, topics, and agencies you follow, your notification preferences, and server logs (IP address, browser type, pages requested) kept for security and debugging. If you connect an AI assistant through our MCP server or API, we also log the requests it makes on your behalf — the tool invoked, its inputs (such as search queries), timing, result size, and errors — and we review those logs to operate the service and improve the tools we offer. Feedback: if you (or an AI assistant acting for you) submit feedback, we keep what was submitted, which may include a description of what you were trying to accomplish if you chose to share it. Billing data: handled by Stripe; we store your subscription status and seat count, never your card number.

Analytics & session recording

To understand how the site is used and to find and fix problems, we use PostHog (product analytics and session replay) and Sentry (error and performance monitoring). These tools collect the pages you visit, clicks and similar interactions, your device and browser, and an approximate location derived from your IP address. PostHog also records your sessions on the site; those recordings mask the text you type into form fields (including passwords). Sentry receives diagnostic details, such as a stack trace and the request involved, only when an error occurs. We use this data to operate and improve the service, never for advertising, and we don't sell it. PostHog analytics and recording load only after you accept them in the consent banner shown on your first visit; if you decline, nothing is loaded or captured. To change your choice later, clear this site's data in your browser or email privacy@governmentcontext.com. Sentry error monitoring runs regardless, as it is essential to keeping the service working.

What we don't do

We don't sell your data, run third-party advertising, or share your follows or activity with anyone outside your organization. Members of your organization can see the organization's shared subscriptions.

Public data

The dockets, documents, comments, bills, votes, hearings, lobbying disclosures, campaign-finance records, grant opportunities, and press releases we display are part of the public record published by U.S. federal sources — including regulations.gov, Congress.gov, the Federal Register, the FCC, SEC, FERC, FEC, Grants.gov, the Senate's lobbying disclosure database, and agency websites — and include any names and organizations that appear in those public filings. We are not affiliated with any U.S. government agency.

Service providers

We use Cloudflare (hosting and file storage), DigitalOcean (databases and data-pipeline servers), WorkOS (credential processing and identity), Stripe (payments), Resend (transactional email), Sentry (error monitoring), PostHog (product analytics and session replay), and RunPod (GPU compute that runs our automated analysis of public-record documents; it does not receive your account data). Each processes only what it needs to provide its service.

Cookies

We set an essential session cookie to keep you signed in. Only if you accept analytics does our provider, PostHog, store identifiers in cookies and in your browser to measure usage and connect session recordings. We don't use third-party advertising cookies.

Retention & deletion

Account data is kept while your account is active. Email privacy@governmentcontext.com to delete your account; we remove personal data within 30 days, except records we must keep for tax or legal compliance.

Changes

We'll email account owners about material changes to this policy before they take effect.
