FTA Announces $166 Million Notice of Funding Opportunity to Replace Railcars Across the Country

FTA today announced the availability of approximately $166 million in competitive grant funding through its Rail Vehicle Replacement Program. The Fiscal Year 2026 funds will support efforts to replace our nation’s aging railcars for the safety and convenience of riders everywhere.
The Rail Vehicle Replacement Program funds transit agencies and state and local governmental authorities’ efforts to replace rail vehicles that are approaching or have exceeded their useful life, so that passengers will experience an improved commute.
Instructions for applying can be found on FTA’s Website. Complete proposals must be submitted electronically through the Grants.gov “Apply” function by July 6, 2026.
