Event Description
Join the Bureau of Land Management’s General Land Office (GLO) and our partners on Wednesday, July 15, 2026 , for a special celebration marking the launch of the GLO Modernization initiative , featuring a Ribbon Cutting, Grand Opening, and Freedom 250 commemoration.
We’ll explore the GLO’s rich history, the story of America’s westward expansion told through land records, and why the GLO website remains one of the Department of the Interior’s most visited resources.
Today, the GLO website serves more than 1,500 users daily , from governments and landowners to researchers, surveyors, and industry. With expanded access to survey plats, land patents, and more, the modernized platform boosts transparency and supports a wide range of public and professional needs.
As part of the Freedom 250 commemoration, the program will highlight the GLO’s historic role in shaping the nation and the continuing importance of open access to foundational land data. A post‑ceremony panel will spotlight the diverse users who rely on GLO records and why this modernization matters.
A land patent certificate from the United States of America issued to Sylvester Aldridge and Benjamin Franklin Bank for public land purchase.
In‑person guests will receive rare, guided access to the GLO Vault , home to original documents and artifacts predating the nation itself. A once‑in‑a‑lifetime look at America’s land heritage.
This modernization is powered by a $9,180,000 Technology Modernization Fund award , the first ever granted to a DOI bureau. The result: stronger security, a streamlined user experience, and expanded access to historical records for generations to come.
Event Highlights: • GLO Today and Tomorrow Panel Discussion • Interactive Workshops • Official Record Look‑ups and Sealed Printouts • Hands‑on Website Demonstrations • Rotational Vault Tours • Ribbon Cutting Ceremony & Light Refreshments
Selected members of the public are invited to attend in person, and the event will also be livestreamed on the BLM Live page for wider audiences.
Registration is for in-person attendance only. The live stream is open to all, no registration needed.
