1)The Federal Shrimp Permit (SPGM) needs to be allowed to Lapse.
2) If it is allowed to Lapse, there are shrimpers who bought permits, the government should be required to purchase these back.
3) If it is renewed, there needs to be a set number of permits, no more lowering of the permits that are in circulation, that way if someone wants to get back in the industry, they can purchase a permit. This law has done nothing for sustainability all it is doing is shutting the industry down. This law causes hardship and more paperwork and adds burdens to an already struggling industry. The less domestic shrimpers providing wild caught domestic shrimp, the more imported trash shrimp is imported and fed to the public which will cause health problems in the future.
