Summary: A frequent NJTransit rail commuter expresses extreme dissatisfaction with the current quality of service, citing frequent breakdowns, poor app functionality, and a lack of accountability from the organization. The commenter calls for new leadership, funding, and general improvements to the transit system.
As a frequent NJTransit rail commuter, I am extremely disappointed with the quality of the service, and feel it negatively impacts our region's economy. NJTransit trains frequently break down, catch fire, and have general service failures leaving riders stranded. This happens multiple times every week, and adds hours to what should be a simple daily commute in and out of New York Penn Station. These issues persist across all lines but are particularly problematic on the M&E lines and NEC line. The organization has constantly prioritized commuters last; disruptions vary day-by-day, but there consistently is an issue with accessing New York Penn Station, the North River Tunnels, NJTransit electrical infrastructure, or the northeast corridor in general. The organization attributes blame to various other organizations and absolves themselves of any personal responsibility. The organization's app is also horrendous, at time displaying trains in the wrong location, with an incorrect routing, or a completely impossible ETA (implying speeds of over 200mph between stations). Safety and security are a non-issue on the route, however ridership is down and riders are frustrated, often opting to drive or take private busses instead. This is the biggest transportation issue facing New Jersey and one of the largest transportation flaws in the entire tri-state area. It would be appropriate for NJT to see new leadership, funding and general improvements.
