The current design is unacceptable as a response to increase safety. In regard to the lengthy amount of time to install, there is a risk of delayed response time for crewmembers to perform emergency duties. I.e. a passenger with sudden life threatening circumstances, an unaccompanied minor being harassed by an adult, a thermal runaway or other matter that puts the aircraft in immediate danger of being structurally compromised.
The human factors of a pilots mental concentration will be put in jeopardy as they have to weigh the risk of a restroom break process versus the remaining time of the flight. And the fear that discomfort will cause a safety compromise to motor skills during flight.
Ultimately, this is an area that can be easily improved upon. The risks have not compromised the current procedures enough to warrant a lack of patience for a more proper solution getting certified.
