I oppose any effort to single out mifepristone, contraception, or reproductive-health medications for inclusion or special targeting under EPA’s Sixth Contaminant Candidate List process.
This is not science. It is a targeted anti-abortion attack based in ideology. The EPA should not allow its drinking-water review process to be weaponized by political groups trying to restrict access to abortion and miscarriage care.
Limiting access to mifepristone would harm women and pregnant patients by delaying medication abortion, reducing miscarriage-care options, increasing travel and costs, worsening medical risk during time-sensitive care, and deepening existing barriers for low-income patients, rural patients, abuse survivors, and people living in states with restricted abortion access.
This campaign is also plainly discriminatory. Prominent male reproductive drugs such as Viagra and Cialis are not being singled out in this process, even though drugs in that class have been detected in wastewater and waterways through human excretion. The selective panic around mifepristone is about abortion politics, not water quality.
I urge EPA to reject any attempt to use CCL 6 to target mifepristone, contraception, or reproductive-health medications without rigorous, credible, science-based evidence. Public health policy should be guided by science — not forced-birth ideology.
