Summary: The commenter opposes the proposed Medicaid community engagement requirement, arguing that it is cruel and punishes individuals for their poverty. They contend that the requirement is illogical and unfairly targets vulnerable populations.
Despite the fact that many individuals and families work while receiving Medicaid benefits already; this work requirement is cruel and unusual especially for our free and prosperous country. Rhetoric doesn’t do any good when it targets those who are already down. It’s easy to advocate on your behalf when you have time, experience and the mental capacity to do it. The individuals who rely on Medicaid don’t create the vicious cycle of poverty. It comes from many different places and not one person is responsible for their situation to either be rich or poor. Taking individuals off of Medicaid when they don’t work the required amount of hours does not make sense as a nation. If we head down this road that blames its poor for being poor and punishes them; what kind of a nation are we really leading and who is benefiting?
