Medicaid is important to people with disabilities. Requiring people to work is unnecessary. If y person has above the substantial gainful activity level, which is defined by the Social Security Administration, they could potentially lose benefits.
Sometimes Medicaid is the only source for long-term care. For example, as I was graduating from high school, we wee faced with the issue concerning who was going to say home with me, so that my parents could go to work. We were advised to contact Social Services and they got me some waiver services until I could get a DD Waiver slot. In December 2001, I was awarded a DD Waiver slot.
People with low-income need to also be able to pay their Medicare Premiums, when their dual eligible. Medicaid will pay those Medicare premiums.
I urge Congress to do everything they can to protect Medicaid.
