Summary: A mother of a mentally disabled adult expresses strong support for maintaining Medicaid benefits. She argues that the program is essential for families who cannot afford to subsidize the care of disabled loved ones and urges the agency not to take actions that would jeopardize access for rightful recipients.
I am a 77yr old mother with a mentally disabled 50 yr. old son. He has been in a group home for the last 2+ yrs. but, before that, he live at home.
He has had Medicaid since he was 18 yrs old. He can not read or write so getting a job was unlikely.
Chip required a kidney transplant in 2001 and got cancer in 2014. Without Medicaid, it would have been impossible for us to subsidize his care. I would have been lost without Medicaid.
I realize there are probably people that abuse the aid but I believe they are a minority. There are many parents like myself that depend on the aid.
Please do not take any action that would jeopardize the rightful people from receiving help.
