Summary: An individual with idiopathic gastroparesis opposes the proposed Medicare coverage changes, stating that the decision to exclude coverage for this condition will leave them unable to afford essential treatments like IV nutrition and medications.
On May 4, 2010 the Department of Health and Human Services made a decision that as of January 1, 2011 any medical expense billed as idiopathic gastroparesis will no longer be covered by Medicare. Most of you know that I have sever idiopathic gastroparesis and am on SSI; therefore, this has a huge impact on my life. This basically means that at the beginning of next year none of my tests, doctor appointments, or medications for my gastroparesis will be covered by my Medicare plans. This includes my IV nutrition, and without that I will slowly starve to death.
