Summary: The commenter argues that hospitals should not be responsible for administering routine vaccinations like pneumonia and flu shots. They contend that these vaccinations are better suited for physician offices or public health departments and express concern that hospital administration could lead to unreliable communication and unnecessary revaccinations.
Expecting the hospitals to fulfill the role of the Medical Home and/or Public Health department in ensuring all patients are receiving their pneumonia and flu vaccinations is unreasonable. Vaccinations during an acute illness is not an optimum practice. Communication of the vaccination to the patient's medical home is also not reliable and may result in multiple unneccessary revaccinations. Routine wellness vaccination needs to occur at the physician offices or public health department, not the hospital.
