Summary: A veteran currently enrolled in the VR&E program expresses dissatisfaction with their counselor's lack of communication and responsiveness. They argue against expanding counselor access to sensitive medical information and call for better communication standards and more meaningful options for reassigning counselors.
am currently navigating the VR&E program, and I do not feel that my counselor has my best interests in mind. Communication has often been vague, and my emails requesting clarification have gone unanswered for extended periods of time. I requested reassignment to a different counselor due to these communication concerns, but that request was denied. I even began copying the supervisor on my emails to improve communication continuity, yet communication issues persist. Because of this experience, I personally would not feel comfortable with expanded counselor access to sensitive medical information. Others may have had positive experiences with their counselors, but I believe veterans should have clearer communication, better responsiveness, and meaningful options when counselor-client dynamics are not effective.
