Comment from Pivot Bio
Pivot BioSupportBusiness
Summary: Pivot Bio, a sustainable agriculture company, supports the USDA's effort to modernize biotechnology oversight and advocates for a science-based, risk-proportionate regulatory framework for modified organisms. They argue that regulations should focus on the characteristics and intended use of the final organism rather than the method of development, and they call for greater transparency, predictability, and streamlined pathways for commercialization.
On behalf of Pivot Bio, thank you for the opportunity to provide comment on the oversight of modified organisms under the Plant Protection Act.
We are pleased that the U.S. Department of Agriculture Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) is seeking to review the oversight of modified plants and microorganisms after an extensive history of safe use and the recognition that the current regulations have not kept pace with biotechnological advances. We also appreciate USDA APHIS’ continued efforts to modernize biotechnology oversight in a manner that protects U.S. agriculture while supporting innovation.
Pivot Bio is a leading sustainable agriculture company, delivering crop nutrition technologies that harness nature’s bacteria to reliably and productively provide the nitrogen that crops need. Our bacteria convert atmospheric nitrogen to plant-available nitrogen throughout the growing season to feed plants when and where needed.
