Summary: The commenter opposes the proposed rule because it imposes an unreasonable 30-day deadline for asylum seekers to pay a $100 fee. They argue that many asylum seekers face significant barriers and that forcing them to return to their home countries due to non-payment would put their lives in danger.
I submit this comment in opposition to the Interim Final Rule titled USCIS Immigration Fees and Related Procedures Required by H.R.1 Reconciliation Bill, DHS Docket No. USCIS-2026-0133.
I am particularly concerned about the provision requiring asylum seekers to pay $100 within 30 days and if unable to do so have their case dismissed. Asylum seekers face language, financial, cultural and other barriers, which makes this an unreasonable time frame in which to follow the directive. plus many asylum seekers lives would be in danger if they were forced to return to their home country. I have worked with Afghan pilots who are in this situation.
Please extend the time to comply with this directive.
