Summary: The commenter supports the implementation of asylum filing and annual fees to help cover the costs of the asylum system rather than relying solely on taxpayers. They also advocate for using these funds to improve processing efficiency, reduce backlogs, and enhance security and fraud prevention.
I support this rule and the implementation of asylum filing fees and annual asylum fees. The asylum system provides significant benefits and protections to applicants, including the ability to remain in the United States while their cases are being reviewed. It is reasonable that beneficiaries contribute to the costs of operating and maintaining this system rather than placing the entire burden on taxpayers. I encourage DHS to continue using these fees to reduce case backlogs, improve processing efficiency, strengthen fraud prevention, and enhance security screening. I also support greater financial transparency and verification of significant sources of funding for asylum applicants to help protect the integrity of the asylum system. Thank you for the opportunity to comment.
