Summary: A U.S. citizen who immigrated to the country supports providing lawful work authorization to Ukrainians fleeing the war. The commenter argues that work authorization allows these individuals to become self-sufficient, contribute to the economy through taxes, and provide reliable labor for employers.
I am a proud U.S. citizen and I strongly support providing lawful work authorization to Ukrainians who have come to the United States because of the war.
Many Ukrainians did not come here by choice. They came to escape violence and rebuild their lives. The vast majority want to work, support their families, and contribute to their communities. Work authorization allows them to earn an honest living, pay federal, state, and local taxes, and become self sufficient instead of relying on public assistance.
As someone who immigrated to the United States and later became a U.S. citizen, I know how important it is to follow the law, work hard, and contribute to this country. Giving eligible Ukrainians the ability to work legally benefits both these families and the United States. Employers gain reliable workers, communities gain productive residents, and governments receive tax revenue.
I respectfully ask USCIS to continue supporting lawful work authorization for eligible Ukrainians so they can support themselves with dignity while complying with U.S. law.
