I am writing to share my opinion in response to the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) requesting being able to continue collecting medical information from all the people that apply to the Federal Air Marshals and for the people who already have a job there. All the information they would like to collect includes physical and mental health data such as cardiac, pulmonary, audiometric, and visual acuity testing; they mention that this information is important for Federal Air Marshal’s safety, which will help them make sure they are able to do this job safely. In this page it clearly states how many people must fill out the form each year around a total of, and there is an estimation given by TSA that mentions how long it takes for applicants, or medical professionals to be able to complete the form. All this information helps me understand in a better way why TSA is making this request and these leads
From all this information, I think that TSA should be able to continue collecting these types of data, but I also think that there should be some changes. Looking at the TSA point of view, they are collecting this medical information to make improvements to the process. Having health checks is important to understand and help understanding if the employees in Air Mashal’s are okay physically and mentally. But even though this information is important to have I feel like they should have a better explanation on how they will be using their data and explain the reason for it as well, that it will stay private, and that their information will be protected. In conclusion I support the request TSA is requesting since collecting this information will benefit the job and will help all the people applying and everyone else to be safe. I also think being able to ask for this information should be certain explanation so the people filling in forms feel more safe about their data staying private and would lead to more transparency for everyone filling out the form.
