Summary: An established researcher opposes the proposed rule, arguing that it could compromise unbiased grant reviews, stifle scientific collaboration, and hinder the implementation of evidence-based interventions by removing patient engagement from research.
As an established researcher, I have several concerns about this OMB proposed rule. In order to maintain to be at the cutting edge of science, it is critical to have an unbiased grant review and selection process. Additionally, it is necessary to be able to be able to disseminate and receive feedback on research ideas and collaborate with others in our field at professional conferences. Without this ability, research will be done in echo chambers which would stifle scientific research in the US. Lastly, removing patient engagement from research will greatly impact the implementation of evidence based interventions into practice. Without it, scientific breakthroughs will take longer to be implemented into practice reducing the return on investment of taxpayers dollars in science.
