Summary: Jaime Eugenin von Bernhardi, a postdoc at Johns Hopkins University, opposes the proposed regulations because they grant political appointees too much power over grant revisions and potentially hinder international scientific collaboration. The commenter argues that the new policies undermine objective, peer-reviewed science and the principles of global scientific cooperation.
,To whom might concern,My name is Jaime Eugenin von Bernhardi and I am a postdoc at Johns Hopkins University. I am writing because I am concerned about the new policy that are trying to be pushed in regard of grants. Specifically, according to section 200.205, political appointees will have tremendous decision power over grants revision, in contrast of the current system that we have in which a professional and scientific peer provides feedback. As a scientist, this is detrimental to our careers because without independent and objective science, we can’t ensure that the data is reliable and a true representation of a natural phenomenon. Also, section 200.206 is very ambiguous what could constitute anti-american when the federal agencies based on empirical evidence should lead to solutions regardless of an artificial category. Finally, 200.202(e) and 200.220 go against of the principles of a scientific community that does not know borders or nationalities. These collaborations are important to have in order to advance different ideas and guide for the good of humanity. Please, consider to removed this policies.Have a good day,Jaime Jaime Eugenin von [ ]
