Summary: The commenter, identifying as a scientist, opposes the proposed regulation because they believe it replaces independent peer review with political oversight, which could lead to biased funding decisions. They also argue that the proposed restrictions on international partnerships are impractical for modern scientific research.
Hello, I am a real scientist doing real research. I have many concerns regarding this. Independent peer review ensures fair, scientifically sound funding decisions compared to political oversight. What is to stop a political appointee from terminating a grant along party lines that have zero scientific reason or merit for doing so? Example deciding not to fund research related to vaccines. Denying grant funding for scientists such as myself that study human evolution. Denying funding for research that is politically disadvantageous to the current political party in charge. This would set our country back. Restrictions on international partnerships is just not feasible in the 21st century. Especially for the things I research which are in other countries. This is absolutely the most snidely whiplash terrible idea I have heard in a long time. Not surprising coming from this incredibly anti-science backwards limping administration.
