[200.432, 200.454, 200.461, 200.206, 200.450] To Whom it May Concern: I am a Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Boston University. I am writing in my personal capacity to oppose the proposed revisions to sections 200.432, 200.454, 200.461, 200.206, and 200.450 that would restrict typical professional expenses, curtail the communication of scientific results, and place excessive scrutiny on the activities of scientists. I rely on professional societies and the conferences they organize to learn about the highest quality science. Conferences are a critical way that information is shared. I attend multiple meetings each year to interact with colleagues and remain competitive in a global research environment. These are a primary way that research is shared. In addition, they increase efficiency of my research because I can learn from others and discuss problems and brainstorm about creative solutions.
