Summary: The Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) opposes several provisions of the proposed rule, specifically the restriction on publication costs and the new authority to suspend or terminate awards based on changing agency priorities. They argue that these changes could undermine the reliability of research funding, impede the dissemination of scientific findings, and disadvantage research-intensive academic medical centers.
