Summary: A neurologist and researcher opposes the proposed rule, arguing that it allows for political interference in the peer-review process of scientific grants. They also express concern that tightening funding for disseminating research will hinder scientific progress and the United States' role as a global leader in science.
As a neurologist and a researcher, i wish to express my strong opposition to the proposed Regulation for Federal Financial Assistance proposed rule. Expert review of grant and funding proposals by peers who understand the scientific and clinical contexts of proposed work is essential for determining the best science to support. Any interference in this process based on political considerations will threaten scientific progress.
In addition, tightening the use of funds for disseminating research findings may result in important research findings going unshared.
This proposed rule will threaten the United States role as a global leader in science.
I urge the OMB to reject this proposed rule.
