Summary: An academic researcher argues that federal funding for research should not come with federal interference or oversight by politically appointed officials. They express concern that such interference could lead to biased results and compromise the integrity of scientific information.
As an academic researcher, I care about research being unbiased. The results of research have wide reaching impacts and if the results or a project are denied due to a politically appointed official, that impacts the accuracy of information for the public and other scientists. Research needs federal funding but it does not need federal interference. Keep the funding and the integrity of research in the hands of experts and not appointed officials.
