this proposed regulation change to limit international travel, allow political appointees to review federal funds awards, and restrictions on conferences, is absolutely absurd and unacceptable. as federally funded researchers, we are fulfilling the mandate of NASA, NSF, and IH, and many other agencies, who's goals are clearly stated in their charters and are dictated by congressional oversight. OMB has no right to interfere with this established process of peer review and merit-based evaluation, switching to an arbitrary political fealty test is un-American and destructive to basic science research. this proposed rule will devastate our young people's futures and science, heavily depressed the economy by removing investment into science, add result in corruption at an unprecedented scale as cronyism replaces peer review, which will only funnel money to people who will make profit for the administration, which is antithetical to scientific inquiry. this proposed rule cannot be allowed to pass, or it is the death knell of this great country's involvement in the global Science research endeavor, and will result in unprecedented suffering of workers, their families, and citizens who benefit directly from scientific research at the federal level.
