Summary: Anita H opposes the proposed reduction in capital requirements for banking institutions, arguing that it compromises the safety of consumer deposits. She contends that the rule favors wealthy elites and "banksters" at the expense of everyday citizens and the nation's economic stability.
To: The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), the Federal Reserve Board (Fed), and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) I'm going to be commenting on a rule proposed by the Comptroller of the Currency, the Federal Reserve System, and the FDIC on either 3/19/2026 or 3/27/2026. The title of the proposed rule is "Regulatory Capital Rule: Category I and II Banking Organizations, Banking Organizations with Significant Trading Activity, and Optional Adoption for Other Banking Organizations.” Document ID: OCC-2026-0265-0001 I'm a concerned citizen of the United States of America. I'm writing to echo some arguments (and complaints) against the proposed reduction in capital requirements for banking institutions. I read over several of the comments that have been submitted. A few of them stood out, and I'd like to repeat some of the statements I read. I'll also be adding in some of my own thoughts. I'll begin with a comment submitted by D W on March 30, 2026. It's a short comment, but it's passionate. I found myself agreeing with this person's argument and sentiment. Most of what you'll read is my spin on D W's statements combined with thoughts that came to mind when I read them. Americans need MORE protection from the possibility of loosing the hard-Earned money they have deposited in banks NOT LESS protection. Banks should be required to hold reserves and have sufficient capital - - - and the FDIC needs to be capable of covering far more than a little over $2 for every $100 insured. Yet it's not even prepared to do that much! Allowing more risk in a system that is already broken due to being woefully unbalanced in favor of Insatiable Wealth-Hoarders is a betrayal of the majority of the citizens of this nation! Bank Failures aren't imaginary events that happen in some far, far away place. And, when they occur the system is already rigged to ensure Wall Street tycoons and 'Banksters' fair well, while regular, 'everyday people' are often left worse off! The banksters already use OUR deposits without paying decent interest on OUR money! They pay themselves Billions of Dollars at OUR expense. They should not be permitted to take advantage of US! So, Please Do the Right Thing: Protect the people who comprise the majority of our Country's population and protect this Nation's economy OR relinquish your positions to others who will! We already don't have a functioning Democracy. Instead we have an Oligarchy or a Plutocracy because far too many people have chosen Covetousness over "loving their neighbors as themselves." Nations that have economies that are egregiously OFF-BALANCE due to an ever expanding gap between the "rich" and the "poor" are Destined & Doomed to Topple and FALL at some point. You cannot protect our nation's economy by catering to the selfish, self-centered desires of wealthy elites! If you want our country to be prosperous, you have too look out for the well-being of all of your neighbors --- instead of a select few. I'm hoping you will. I'm pressed for time, so I'll only touch on one other person's comment. Like Brian Platisha, I'm outraged that those who are supposed to look out for "the general public" are willing to take away our safety net in order to cater to Banksters! Why should we think/feel our money is safe in Banks when our money can be used to bail out (or bail in) Banksters whenever they FAIL due mismanagement and gambling with other people's money? Why has the system been rigged so that hard-working Americans have to stand in line behind Wall Street tycoons? Why have regulators passed laws that ensure the ultra-rich are protected and get their money before we get our money? Why is there a love of INJUSTICE within the hearts of those who've been entrusted to look out for the well-being of the citizens of this nation? We want to know that our money is safe in Banks. We need to have a guarantee that if a bank fails, our money Will Not Be Lost. How can you live with enabling Banksters to steal from people, and enabling Wall Street Tycoons to recover their looses ahead of people who have far less money than they do? I agree with Brian Platisha: These kinds of things (letting Banksters get away with not having an adequate supply of capital and ensuring Wall Street tycoons get their money before anyone else does) should be ILLEGAL! Don't count yourselves innocent if you help set up conditions that foster Injustice, by designing laws/rules that give Wealthy Elites UNFAIR ADVANTAGES over others, and actually legalize theft! Pretending to be looking out for people when you aren't is Immoral! It's more than dishonest. It's deceitful and malicious! It's not a minor OFFENSE! Please have a care for the Finest Things in life, things like Wisdom, Kindness, Justice, Love, Harmony, Honor, and Peace. You are supposed to look out for "the People" not "the Powerful." Please do so. Sincerely, Anita H
