I am a physician and former researcher. If you are going to align with what Trump and the OMB want, then American science and innovation are dead.
The NSF members were all fired. Nothing should be approved until they are reinstated or a board is reconstituted with similar experts, as opposed to political appointees.
The previous standard, judging proposals by the underlying science, aka peer review, is the gold standard. To align w Trump and Vought means that everything will be determined by political considerations and by a political appointee. It will be the death knell of many things, including climate study, research on health disparities, and anything with international collaboration or that mentions DEI.
Appointing nonscientists to decision-making positions is irrational and shows that the goal of this administration is not to make science better. It will further decimate our country’s leadership.
Do not proceed with making these changes.
