Summary: The commenter opposes the proposed guidance, arguing that it could lead to the termination of grants based on political priorities rather than scientific merit. They also express concern that the proposals would negatively impact the ability to communicate research findings through conference travel and publication funding.
I am opposed to the proposed Guide 25.
Terminating a grant for not being aligned with administration political priorities is inappropriate and contrary to the principles of science. The current merit-review process is effective and appropriate in assisting the agency’s mission.
I am opposed to the proposed Guide 12. Communicating research is a crucial part of research and conferences are an important portion of communicating the findings so they can be used to improve society. Funding travel to conferences is important to communicating findings. Similarly funding publication costs is important to communicating findings via publications.
These proposals and others would be a detriment to one aspect that makes this country great.
