Summary: The commenter opposes the proposed action, arguing that it represents political overreach that threatens academic freedom and intellectual exchange. They express concern that political interference in scientific research will hinder the progress of knowledge and public health.
Progress toward improving the nation's health and other aspects of life depend on scientists being judged not by political appointees, but by knowledgeable peers in their field including those outside the US. Too, they must not be prevented from sharing their research by the overreach of a political OMB proposal that is nothing short of regressive shutting down of intellectual exchange and academic freedom to investigate important scientific questions. Political interference in scientific research will only retard knowledge that can help me and other Americans.
