Summary: A former virology researcher opposes the proposed changes to the National Science Foundation's proposal and award information guidance. The commenter argues that the changes will hamper scientific research and education by restricting the current open and successful funding model.
The proposed changes will substantially hamper scientific research in the US, and significantly damage scientific education within US institutions. As a former virology researcher I can attest to the value and success of the open and vital mode of funding grants, Our generous and wide-ranging funding model has made the US the foremost scientific research force in the world--the proposed changes would diminish and restrict this process, and deeply diminish our importance as a global force.
