I strongly oppose any revision to the Wilderness Stewardship Policy Review that would weaken protection for America’s great Wilderness Study Areas, lands with wilderness characteristics, recommended wilderness, and existing Wilderness. As an older man, I’ve enjoyed wild places for decades and see these places as a legacy that we pass to future generations. The existing policy and related ones ensure that the Wilderness Act and the statutes governing these lands are fully implemented. The agency has offered no justification for reversing decades of policies that have benefitted countless American individuals and families. I ask that the existing standards be preserved in full, without lowering the standard of care for these lands in any way, so that our wild lands will be protected as they have been.
