Summary: The commenter, a volunteer citizen science participant, supports updating the Olympic Coast National Marine Sanctuary management plan to reflect current conditions. They emphasize the importance of marine sanctuaries for biodiversity and advocate for public involvement in the planning process.
I have been a volunteer citizen science participant in Oregon which involved interviewing visitors to Oregon’s marine sanctuaries. They are so important to the health of fish, invertebrate and plant species. They are the environmental nurseries of the ocean.
Therefore, I am very much in favor of updating the Olympic Coast National Marine Sanctuary management plan, which replaces the outdated 2011 plan with a new draft that reflects current conditions and sanctuary goals.
I also feel that it is important for the public to be able to comment on plans that our public agencies create so that our public land and ocean sanctuaries are treated according to the science required to maintain them.
