Summary: An individual is writing to express support for the protection of the Rice's whale. The commenter argues that protecting the species is essential to preventing the collapse of nature and criticizes the prioritization of short-term energy fixes over long-term environmental health.
Dear NOAA under Secretary Neil Jacobs: I am writing in support of protection for the Rice’s whale. It is critical that humans begin honoring the web of life that includes all things. The web that does not exclude the human but holds them accountable to their actions through consequences. The Rice’s whale is a distinct species that lives in a specific environment. We know that it has a unique part to play in its habitat that is connected to all things. To risk losing the Rice’s whale for oil extraction is to incur the further collapse of Nature altogether. We know this, science knows this, and science predicts this as we have lost so many species to extinction already. The continual exchange of long term negative results for short term ‘energy fixes’ is why we are already in the existential predicament we all now find ourselves in. Of course you know this already as I do. I simply hope you consider it. Please.
