I strongly oppose the drastic fee increase from $155 to $755 for Form I-246, the Application for a Stay of Deportation or Removal. 1. This $600 increase, a nearly 400% increase, imposes an often-insurmountable financial burden causing irreparable harm to those who are already facing removal, especially for low-income folks *who pay taxes* and families with mothers who can't work because they have small children at home and often don't drive. And this in a time of inflation, specifically on needed food, rent, and gas to get to work, is extreme and disproportionate to cumulative inflation over the last 37 years, not to mention unreasonable without proving a corresponding agency need or an improvement in the processing times or adjudication efficiency of these urgent applications. 2. These fees harm our entire community, especially affecting our food supply and our elderly in retirement homes since so many immigrants are agricultural workers and maids & housekeepers, not to mention our leisure activities in eating out in restaurants they work in. As you probably know, the "biggest" illegal immigrant in the U.S. is Elon Musk, who overstayed his student visa, got more government subsidies than all other illegal immigrants combined, doesn't pay his fair share in taxes, and has not contributed libraries or universities or opera houses, etc., like the Carnegies or Rockefellers.
