I support HUD's proposed rule, “Revising the Definition of ‘Manufactured Home’ to Lower Housing Costs.” I believe this change could encourage innovation in manufactured housing while reducing unnecessary production and transportation costs. Allowing upper-floor sections of multi-story manufactured homes to be constructed without a permanent chassis may give manufacturers greater flexibility to develop more efficient and affordable housing designs.
Affordable housing continues to be a major concern for many individuals and families. Regulations should protect public safety while also adapting to changes in construction methods and technology. This proposal appears to maintain HUD's federal construction and safety oversight while removing a requirement that may create unnecessary costs for certain multi-story homes.
For these reasons, I support the proposed change. I encourage HUD to move forward with the rule while continuing to ensure that manufactured homes meet strong safety, durability, and quality standards.
