Summary: Wyatt, a private individual, opposes the proposed revisions to the Equal Access Rule. I am strongly opposed to the proposed changes to the Equal Access Rule issued by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). This proposal would remove critical protections for transgender, nonbinary, and intersex people. By redefining “sex” in a restrictive way and allowing providers to require documentation or proof, the rule opens the door to discrimination towards people seeking housing assistance. This is obviously harmful in and of itself, but I would furthermore point out that people who are intersex and/or not cis tend to be poorer on average, thus meaning that this rule change would be exacerbating an already bad situation.
