I am writing to strongly oppose the proposed changes to the Equal Access Rule issued by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). This proposal is using work requirements to further oppress human beings instead of using our tax paid programs to provide social safety nets for EVERYONE, not just those in need. It is very clear that the purpose of this bill is to allow housing programs and private owners; to dictate how the tenants live their life. It is not a beneficial bill, it is punishing people and stripping them of autonomy which is completely antithetical to helping people in need. Our country cannot be allowed to push it's people further and further in this direction, it makes me physically ill to think of bills like this passing.
The American people deserve equal and fair access to social safety net programs without work requirements. And the additional sections about rewriting sex combined is likely going to lead to further oppression and targeting of people in the LGBT community. This bill will result in suffering for our citizens who need assistance.
The entire bill's premise is shameful.
