Summary: An individual supporter of the American Buffalo argues that the species should be granted Endangered Species protection to prevent them from being killed by people in Montana and neighboring states. The commenter emphasizes the buffalo's cultural significance and their status as the only wild buffalo left in America.
I am a huge supporter of the American Buffalo and its stature as our American icon and National Mammal. The buffalo in Yellowstone Park are under seige by Montana and neighboring states. They need to be given Endangered Species protection. They are not allowed to roam freely. Elk are allowed to roam freely in Montana but not buffalo. People kill them at will. The Yellowstone buffalo are the only wild buffalo left in America and deserve our protection. They also deserve our respect as the dominant plains animals they are and were, and the position they hold in American folklore and history. Please give them Endangered Species status and stop Montanans and others from killing them.
