Summary: An individual commenter supports the FTC's decision to continue requiring funeral service providers to disclose pricing. They argue that clear pricing information is essential for consumers to make informed decisions and avoid high-pressure sales tactics during emotionally draining situations.
I support the Federal Trade Commission's (FTC) decision to continue to require providers to disclose funeral service prices. Consumers have the right to receive clear and easy-to-understand pricing from the funeral home they select for their loved one's funeral. Planning for a family member's funeral is often an emotionally and financially draining experience for many families. Families should be provided with all available pricing information in order to make informed decisions regarding the funeral services being planned. When consumers have access to clear and understandable pricing information, they will be able to compare funeral service costs, determine what specific funeral services are being charged for and avoid making uninformed and costly decisions regarding funeral services. Businesses should clearly provide pricing information to consumers on all services provided by businesses where high cost and high pressure situations exist. By providing consumers with proper details on funeral services, consumers will be able to make informed decisions about their funeral arrangements rather than feel forced into selecting funeral arrangements without knowing all the details of the cost associated with those selections. By continuing to require funeral service providers to comply with the consumer protection requirements outlined in this section, the FTC continues to promote fair business practices and hold funeral service providers accountable for providing consumers with complete and accurate pricing information. In my opinion, the continuation of the FTC's efforts to gather data and enforce price disclosure regulations for funeral services benefits consumers and adds to a more transparent marketplace.
