Regarding the Solensia Injection, manufactured by Zoetis. July 2023: After the first shot of Solensia was administered, my 13-ish year old cat never ate or drank again, after doing both normally prior to the shot. She was given it for a torn ligament. Her front leg, an injury which happened months earlier but was still causing pain. I returned her to the vet a few days after the shot as her back legs were giving way and she couldn't make it to the toilet. She was also being sick and seemed very distant, like there was some kind of neurological issue. The vet took bloods said there was indication of kidney failure. The vet encouraged me to have her euthanized and stated the kidney failure couldn't have been caused by Solensia. Unfortunately I believed them and took their advice. The vet told me they would discuss the matter with the manufacturer of Solensia, but on checking this with them a year later it seems it wasn't recorded on file so the side effects, and death of my cat weren't officially recorded. Later, I was again offered Solensia by the same vet practice for my younger cat, 4 years of age, who was suffering from intermittent limping. Needless to say I declined the treatment. Vets seem to be prescribing this off-label for any kind of pain related issues, and under-reporting side-effects and death caused by it. There is now so much evidence out there from fellow pet owners who have had the same experience with this drug, yet it hasn't been taken off the market.
