Summary: The Soft Lights Foundation opposes the proposed action by arguing that LED lighting conversions contribute to greenhouse gas emissions and negatively impact ecosystems. They urge the commission to review specific scientific research regarding the environmental and biological consequences of artificial light at night.
This is a comment to the New York State Public Services Commission which is relevant to this case:
"LED lighting conversions are adding to greenhouse gas emissions - both carbon and methane - which means LED streetlighting is undermining the goals of the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Plan to reduce pollutants contributing to climate change. NYSPSC share share this research immediately with the State Legislature, the DEC, and the NYS Dept of Agriculture. The commission needs to absorb, understand and apply the information contained in these articles.
