Summary: The Soft Lights Foundation argues that LED headlights are a hazard to nighttime driving, causing vision impairment, headaches, and safety risks for other motorists. They advocate for restrictions on LED headlights as default lighting, claiming there is no practical benefit to their use.
LED headlights are a hazard and a nuisance for night time driving. They severely negatively impact driver vision for the duration of contact from an oncoming vehicle even at a distance. It impedes a driver's ability to see possible hazards, obstacles, pedestrians, bikers, etc on the road. Prolonged exposure to LED headlights while driving are also generally harmful to vision and well-being as experienced through headaches and vision distortion during and after driving. There is no practical benefit or reason for vehicles to be equipped with what amounts to high-beams as the default headlight. It is a hazard which consumers have no say in or control over, for which drivers and bystanders ultimately pay the price in disruption, fatigue, and frustration.
