Summary: A private individual who is the caregiver for a patient with ANCA Vasculitis opposes the withdrawal of approval for TAVNEOS. They argue that the medication is a vital treatment for their relative, who cannot tolerate other standard treatments like high-dose steroids.
My MIL suffers from ANCA Vasculitis that affects her kidneys. She is a tricky case because she is highly-sensitive to multiple medications. She cannot tolerate high-dose steroids because it sends her into a steroid-induced psychosis. We have trialed multiple ways to see if we can get her to tolerate steroids but each time she begins to hallucinate and deteriorate. Tavenos has been the answer we were looking for. It has stabilized the disease and given her a much better quality of life. She has not suffered any side effects and her kidneys tolerate it well. We are very concerned what her future will look like if this medication is no longer a viable option for her.
