Summary: A patient who experienced positive outcomes from Tavneos argues against withdrawing its approval. The commenter suggests that the observed liver injuries might be caused by the patient's underlying condition (EGPA vasculitis) rather than the drug itself.
I had taken Tavneos for 52 weeks and I had positive outcomes with this drug and my bile ducts were normal. I have read the finding of the 76 cases of the supposed drug induced liver injury namely vanishing bile ducts syndrome. In rare cases EGPA vasculitis can affect the small blood vessels that supply blood to the bile ducts, and EGPA vasculitis is a systemic necrotizing vasculitis of the small blood vessels. Hopeful the FDA is considering every outcome possible that can occur from having systemic necrotization of the small blood vessels caused by EGPA vasculitis before determining that it is the drug Tavenos that caused the vanishing bile duct syndrome and that it was not the disease itself that played a strong role in the development of vanishing bile duct syndrome.
