Summary: The Doctor Patient Forum supports the citizen petition to regulate or abolish the NarxCare system. They argue that the system lacks transparency, violates patient rights, and negatively impacts the ability of healthcare providers to deliver effective care.
NarxCare must be regulated and made transparent, if it is to remain. At present, it should be abolished. It is being used to deny care and has failed in performing its intended function. Patient rights are being infringed upon by use of this system and we have no way to view, dispute, amend information or resolve issues, thus resulting in harm. Secret algorithms, invasive data collection, and arbitrary conclusions arrived in secret have no place in the provision of medical care. This system violates or is complicit in violating provisions of ADA, HIPAA, §504 rehabilitation act, etc. Patients who have documented need for certain medications are unable to obtain them because of the effects of this system and reliance upon it. The president of our state pharmacy board has even mentioned that this system has negatively impacted the ability to provide care effectively because of the lack of transparency, background information, and communication ability between providers. This system may have sounded good to someone back when the issues were understood based upon the available data at that time, but the environment has changed and will continue to change. Unfortunately, this system has failed to adapt to the current environment and poses more harm than benefit. The ultimate result is further patient harm and violation of rights. Regulate, open access, amend, or the prudent action is to remove and abolish this system. Thank you for your consideration. I sincerely hope you act upon the concerns raised. Patient lives are drastically impacted.
