Summary: The Catholic Medical Association opposes the petition to reduce or eliminate safety regulations (REMS and EASU) for mifepristone. They argue that the petition relies on biased data that underestimates serious adverse effects and that removing safeguards would exacerbate ethical and societal risks associated with chemical abortions.
I am a family physician who included OB in my practice for 18 years. I am gravely concerned about the risks associated with loosening safety measures for chemical abortive agents. There is known bias in favor of abortion on behalf of the agencies who have put forth these "citizens" petitions and significant known risks to women from these agents without proper requirements for adverse event reporting. I urge you not to loosen the safety measures further
