Summary: A veterinary hospital representative supports the inclusion of compounded prednisolone oral solutions for office stock. They argue that having this medication on hand is essential for treating feline patients who cannot take tablets and for whom existing commercial products are not at an acceptable concentration.
Comment in reference to GFI #256 guidance. Stocking compounded prednisolone oral solutions for office use is an imperative part of our hospital when owners are unable to medicate their feline pets on their own with tablet options and the only commercially available product is not an acceptable concentration to medicate these patients. We need to have this option on hand in hospital to start a patient on it right away to treat various ailments. The flavoring options that Wedgewood provides for the liquid medications is also very helpful in our ability to properly treat our patients.
