Summary: A BNSF Railway employee supports the proposed FAA action to restrict unmanned aircraft in rail yards. The commenter argues that UAs pose significant security risks to hazardous materials and create safety hazards for workers in already dangerous environments.
Hello, This comment is about The FAA's purposed UAFR Plan and its importance in all rail yards in the United States. I'm a TY&E employee for BNSF Railway with almost 4 years of experience. Representatives of the FAA should be aware that any UA's in rail yards for any reasons poses a serious risk of security to the U.S. as well as its citizens. Not only do we work with, store and unload security safety material like nuclear material, explosives, poisonous gases in these yards we transport them in dense urban areas that could cause catastrophic events if said materials were tracked with UA's and tampered with for acts of terrorism. Rail yards are extremely dangerous already, willfully allowing Rail carriers and the public alike to use UA's for Photography, Operations testing etc. not only adds more distractions to an already dangerous environment it invites situations that could cause serious injury or fatality.
