Comment from Virginia Maritime Association
Virginia Maritime AssociationSupportTrade association
Summary: The Virginia Maritime Association supports the proposed rule to restrict unmanned aircraft near fixed site facilities but requests specific refinements for maritime environments. They advocate for boundaries based on Coast Guard-recognized security footprints, exemptions for facility-authorized drone operations, and shared port-level Remote ID sensing capabilities.
The Virginia Maritime Association is the 106-year-old trade association representing over 450 businesses directly and indirectly engaged in the flow of waterborne commerce through Virginia’s ports, to include vessel operators, marine terminal & warehouse operators, shipbuilding & repair yards, trucking firms, offshore wind developers, and all manner of companies involved in freight transportation and logistics. As the “Voice of Port Industries,” we write in support of this proposed rule and to respectfully ask the FAA to refine several elements so that the new Unmanned Aircraft Flight Restriction (UAFR) framework works as intended on the working waterfront. See attached letter.
